Code of Conduct
Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to establish the standards and expectations for all members of the Brighton Varsity/JV Hockey Team. Being a member of this program is a privilege that requires commitment, integrity, respect, and responsibility. Every player represents their teammates, coaches, school, family, and community.
Team Core Values
All players are expected to demonstrate:
- Respect for teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and facilities.
- Integrity by being honest, accountable, and trustworthy.
- Commitment to team goals and personal improvement.
- Sportsmanship in both victory and defeat.
- Leadership through positive actions and attitudes.
Player Expectations
1. Team Commitment
Players will:
- Attend all practices, games, and team events unless excused by a coach.
- Sign in to all practices and games on GameSheet.
- Arrive on time and be prepared.
- Communicate promptly with coaches regarding absences or conflicts.
- Club team conflicts communicated in advance will be excused.
2. Respect and Sportsmanship
Players will:
- Treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and spectators with dignity and respect.
- Uphold the no-tolerance policy for abusive language, bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
- Accept officials' decisions respectfully. Only captains and assistant captains are allowed to talk to officials.
- Win with humility and lose with class.
3. Team Culture
Players are expected to:
- Support and encourage teammates.
- Promote a positive locker room environment.
- Avoid gossip, hazing, intimidation, or exclusion of others.
- Put team success ahead of personal statistics or recognition.
4. Safety
Players will:
- Follow all safety instructions from coaches and staff.
- Wear required protective equipment properly.
- Report injuries, illnesses, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Prioritize the health and safety of themselves and teammates.
- Locker room: No phone or recording device use in the locker room.
- Substances: No alcohol, tobacco, vaping or drug use at any team activity or in connection with the program.
- Social media: Players represent the program online. Nothing posted that demeans teammates, opponents, officials, or the school.
Reporting
Concerns about bullying, harassment, or hazing may be brought to any coach or to the team trustee. Abuse and sexual misconduct are reported to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, 720-524-5640, uscenterforsafesport.org, per USA Hockey policy.
Leadership Expectations
Captains and Assistant Captains are expected to:
- Lead by example.
- Demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship and accountability.
- Encourage inclusion and team unity.
- Help maintain a positive team culture.
Consequences for Violations
Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to:
- Verbal or written warning
- Meeting with Parent, Player, Coach, and Trustee
- Suspension from practices or games
- Loss of leadership positions
- Removal from the team
League and USA Hockey discipline, including automatic suspensions, applies in addition to any team consequence.
Coaches reserve the right to determine appropriate consequences based on the severity and frequency of violations.

I understand that being a member of the Brighton Varsity/JV Hockey Team is a privilege. I agree to uphold the standards outlined in this Code of Conduct and to represent my team, school, family, and community with pride, integrity, and respect.
