Coach Certification & Requirements
Every Brighton coach must keep four USA Hockey requirements current to be on the bench. They renew on different schedules, so here's the short version. (The USA Hockey season runs Sept 1 – Aug 31.)
Brighton reimburses these fees. Pay up front, then send your receipts to the trustee. (SafeSport itself is free.)
At a Glance
| Requirement | Good for | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| USA Hockey Registration | 1 season | membership.usahockey.com |
| SafeSport Training | 12 months | Completion certificate / SafeSport Launchpad |
| Background Screen | 2 seasons | Confirmation email from the screening vendor (NCSI) |
| Coaching Certification (CEP) | Level + annual age module | Learning Center dashboard |
There's no single reliable status dashboard. The Learning Center dashboard is best for CEP and also shows SafeSport and your screen, but confirm those two at their own sources. The trustee keeps a master record, so if you're unsure, just ask.
The Requirements
USA Hockey Registration - membership.usahockey.com
Your annual membership; everything else ties to it. Renew each season before you can be rostered. Tip: the 4th digit of your confirmation number is the season it expires - a 7 means good through 2026-27.
SafeSport Training - usahockey.com/safesporttraining Free, renewed yearly. The first time is the ~90-minute Core course, then a shorter annual refresher. Take it at the SafeSport Launchpad and save your certificate.
Background Screen - usahockey.com/backgroundscreen About $30 through NCSI, good for two seasons. Because it lasts longer, it's the easy one to forget - do it early, it can take up to 10 days to clear.
Coaching Certification (CEP) - usahockey.com/coachingcertification Two parts: a certification level/clinic (Level 1 and up for 10U and above, required by Jan 1) and an age-specific online module you redo every season. Check both on the Learning Center dashboard.
Requirements come from USA Hockey and can change season to season. Questions? Ask the trustee.
